Nothing is better than biting into a scone with a generous amount of jam on top, and it turns out they are incredibly simple to make in only 15 minutes. Chantelle Ellem, a cook and founder of Fat Mum Slim , has shared that the easiest way to make scones is to use an air fryer as this nifty gadget will do all the work for you. She said: “The trick here is these aren’t just any old scone, they’re air-fryer scones.
The air-fryer is probably the most over-used appliance in our house. It does everything. So it made sense to make these in the air fryer, instead of putting the oven on.
” Not only does it take no at all to make this recipe but it also only requires three ingredients as the secret to making scones is using lemonade. It sounds unusual, but lemonade contains citric acid which reacts to self-raising flour to boost the scones while cooking which will make the even fluffier and also enhance the flavour without needing sugar. Chantelle said: “Old school lemonade works best.
While lemonade like Sprite works perfectly fine in this recipe , I prefer an old school style lemonade better. My favourite is Kirks Lemonade.” How to make scones in the air fryer You will need: Three cups of self-raising flour One up of thickened cream One cup of lemonade To begin, place the flour in a bowl and make a hole in the middle to make a well.
Pour the cream and lemonade into the hole and stir to combine. Scatter some flour on a countertop and add the dough, then knead until you have a smooth texture. Cut the dough into 16 equal pieces and shape into scones and then place a sheet of baking paper onto the base of your air fryer.
Add the scones to the air fryer basket, and do not worry about them being squished together as they cook better when not separated, according to Chantelle. She said: “When placing your scones into the air-fryer basket, it’s OK for them to touch them each other, and no need to stress about spacing them out. “Even when cooking them in the oven, with loads of space, I always made sure they’re all grouped together.
They just bake better.” Cook the scones at 180C for 15 minutes, and after the time is up your delicious scones will be ready to eat. However, if the scones seem overcooked, then cook them at two-minute intervals until the scones are ready.
Chantelle explained: “Every air-fryer is created different. I suggest keeping an eye on them as they cook for the first time, so you can adjust the temperature or cook time and avoid burnt scones.”.
