“Home Alone 2” Director Wants Trump Scene Cut

Filmmaker Chris Columbus says he wishes he could remove current U.S. President Donald Trump’s seven-second cameo from his 1992 comedy “Home Alone 2”.

Speaking with the San Francisco Chronicle recently, Columbus re-affirmed quotes he made in 2020 that Trump appeared in the movie only because he wouldn’t let the production use his Plaza Hotel otherwise.Trump got wind of those original quotes and in a Truth Social post in 2023 claimed that Columbus was ‘begging’ him to be in the movie and Trump had no initial desire to do it. He said I was lying. I’m not lying. He said I begged him to be in the movie, but there’s no world I would ever beg a non-actor to be in a movie.

But we were desperate to get the Plaza Hotel. But it’s there. It’s become an albatross for me.

I just wish it was gone.”Columbus says the film’s audience loved the cameo when they screened the movie in Chicago in 1992 which he found shocking.“We screened the film in Chicago, and when that moment came onscreen the audience went crazy.

I think I know a lot about comedy, but I don’t, obviously, because I never thought that was going to be considered hilarious.”“Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” was released and was a smash hit at the time, grossing $359 million worldwide at the box office from a $28 million budget and became the third-highest grossing film of 1992.
