A Hollywood actor has been promoting the use of the Welsh language on social media. Hans Obma, a television actor from Wisconsin in the United States of America has learnt Welsh and hopes to one day act in the language. Since learning how to speak Welsh after the Covid-19 pandemic, Hans has been promoting the language on his social media accounts by uploading bilingual content.
One of his videos showcases all of the Welsh actors on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, this includes the likes of Richard Burton and Anthony Hopkins. When speaking to S4C news, he said: "There were many reason for me to choose to learn Welsh. My grandmother came from south Wales, from Brynmawr.

He added: "The want was there and another thing was during lockdown I started developing a series called 'A question of service', and the main character was a Welsh speaker so I had to learn Welsh.
" The actor who usually plays the part of villains, has starred in the Vampire Diaries, Better Call Saul, The Rookie, Narcos:Mexico and Marvel's Wandavision. He has also said that one day he hopes to get the opportunity to act in Welsh, having visited Wales on many occasions including for the 2023 Eisteddfod in Gwynedd , North Wales. Hans has said that he loves visiting Wales as it gives him the opportunity to speak the language.
He explained: "I like when I come to Wales, I can find another world. I can find people that speak Welsh, I enjoy going to the national museum, because when I'm there many people can speak Welsh with me, so it's another experience of speaking Welsh." Although the actor doesn't just speak Welsh and English, but is in fact fluent in Spanish, French, and German which he has used for various other acting roles.
He first learnt Spanish and French in high school and then went on to study the language in college, although German came a little later when he released it may help him go further in his acting career. Welsh speakers took to social media to share their support of the American learning the language, with some calling him inspirational. One user commented in Welsh: "Your Welsh is amazing Hans, well done you.
". Social media users have also noticed that his American dialect still remains when saying certain words, like 'Hollywood Boulevard'. One user added: "Its lovely to hear the Welsh language being used by other people across the world.
