Qatar tribune Hanane Djoua Doha The paediatric and general emergency departments at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) experienced a significant influx of patients on the third day of Eid Al-Fitr, with hundreds seeking medical attention across various facilities. Dr Mohammed Al-Amri, the head of the Paediatrics Department and Director of Paediatric Emergency at HMC, confirmed that the Paediatric Emergency Department at Al Sadd alone received 756 cases. Most were mild, including gastroenteritis and respiratory infections.

However, one severe case involving seizures and a high fever was diagnosed as Influenza B. The patient was admitted to the intensive care unit and is expected to be discharged within two days. Other paediatric emergency units also saw a high number of cases.



The Al Rayyan Paediatric Emergency Department treated 405 cases, the Airport branch handled 170, Al Wakra received 277, and Al Khor Emergency Department treated 60 cases, most of which were minor. Meanwhile, the Paediatric Emergency Department at Aisha Al-Attiyah Hospital managed 59 cases, with one requiring hospital admission. The ambulance services also remained active during the holiday period.

Ali Darwish, assistant executive director of Ambulance Services at HMC, reported a total of 348 calls for service. Among these, 10 cases were related to road traffic accidents (RTA), and three life-threatening emergency calls (LF) were received, though two were later cancelled, and one required hospital transportation. Dr Aisha Al-Sada from the Emergency Department provided data on patient admissions at Hamad General Hospital’s Emergency Department on the same day.

A total of 798 patients were seen, including 150 trauma-related cases. Of these, 55 patients required hospital admission. The most common medical complaints included abdominal pain (133 cases), fever (72 cases), chest pain (42 cases), and dizziness (38 cases).

HMC’s emergency services continue to operate at full capacity to provide swift and efficient medical care during the festive season, ensuring that both minor and critical cases receive timely attention. Copy 03/04/2025 10.
