History lovers invited to go back in time for medieval festival

Arundel Castle will host The Easter Medieval Festival in April.

History lovers will be able to watch medieval combat and feast at an event this Easter. The Easter Medieval Festival at Arundel Castle will take place over the bank holiday weekend, from Friday, April 18, to Sunday, April 20. Visitors of all ages have been invited to journey back to the year 1214, as the castle's lower lawns are transformed into a lively medieval encampment.

This year's festival centres around the significant historical moment when King John summoned his barons to prepare for a campaign to reclaim Normandy from Philip, King of France. Visitors can witness the Earl of Arundel and his forces as they engage in training, displaying their combat and archery skills. The three days will see a range of activities and entertainment take place, from live medieval music to archery and crafting in a family-friendly tent.



All activities are included in the ticket price. Attendees will get the chance to try medieval-inspired dishes and beverages at the Knights Table There will also be refreshments at the castle’s cafe, restaurant and tea terrace. Andrew Lewis, castle manager at Arundel Castle, said: "The Easter Medieval Festival is a truly exciting way for visitors to step into and learn about history.

"This year’s event offers a whole host of experiences, from thrilling combat demonstrations to hands-on activities that bring the medieval period to life. "We look forward to welcoming families, history enthusiasts and first-time visitors alike to enjoy this unforgettable weekend." Tickets for the Medieval Festival are priced from £28 per adult, £12.

50 for a child, or £68.50 for a family ticket. There's free entry for children under five.
