Historic England backs access upgrade at iconic Huddersfield Castle Hill landmark

Work has taken place at ancient site with blessing of conservationists

Work has taken place to improve access to Jubilee Tower at Castle Hill in Huddersfield . Kirklees Council sought permission earlier this year from Historic England to carry out some improvement works at Scheduled Ancient Monument site. The work, to improve damaged steps and access ramps, has since been carried out at.

A Kirklees Council spokesperson said: "Following approval from Historic England, the council carried out some works at Victoria Tower, Castle Hill. "Works, which took place in autumn, included improvements to steps and access ramps. "With thousands of visitors to the prominent Kirklees attraction every year, maintenance and upkeep is essential so we can continue to welcome people back year on year.



" Castle Hill is the site for a proposed visitor centre and cafe/restaurant by developer Indy Thandi of the Thandi Partnership.
