We have more newsletters Show Me No thanks, close See our Privacy Notice A historic castle famously used as a backdrop for a popular Netflix series is just a short car ride away from Cambridgeshire . Grimsthorpe Castle, located near Bourne, south Lincolnshire, takes around 60 minutes to get to from Cambridge. It has been in the Willoughby de Eresby family for 500 years.
It was first granted by Henry VIII to William, Baron Willoughby de Eresby in 1516. Fans of Bridgerton may also recognise the 13th century attraction from when it was showcased in the beloved show in season three. The castle doubled as the residence of Lord Hawkins, played by Deepak Verma.
"Gentle readers, the secret is at last out," they wrote in a post on social media at the time. "Last week, we tantalised you with clues about a certain filming crew that graced our halls last year – were your guesses on point? "Grimsthorpe Castle proudly hosted the Netflix production of Bridgerton Season 3! Yes, you read that right – our historic grounds were transformed into the backdrop for this period drama series." It turns out the majestic 3,000 acre piece of land is also a great, fun and affordable day out for all the family.
Once you've acquired your ticket, prepare to bask in all its glory. Upon entering the castle, you can ponder at its collection of paintings, furniture and tapestries, with some of the most iconic being the thrones and furnishings from the House of Lords. Then there's the gardens surrounding the building on three sides, boasting beauties like ornamental pools, spring bulbs, as well as fruit and vegetables.
Then there's Grimsthorpe Park. It can be found on the southern edge of the great Lincolnshire forest, and is covered in ancient oak trees that if they could speak could tell the most engrossing time-bending tales. Visitors can also take advantage of the unique farm shop, open Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm.
Located in the courtyard before the park entrance with free car parking, it offers fresh and seasonal produce for a good price. Don't forget the exciting Woodland Playground. The best way to keep youngsters entertained with swings, climbing frames, slides, a thrilling zip wire and much more.
