Prayagraj: Recruitment of regular Sanskrit teachers in 403 aided Sanskrit colleges and 570 secondary schools of the state hangs in limbo as it is not clear who will appoint these teachers. On March 28, 2018, after amending the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Sanskrit Education Council (Appointment and Service Conditions of Principals, Teachers and Other Employees of Institutions) Regulations-2009, the govt gave the right to select teachers in aided Sanskrit schools to the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Service Selection Board. In 2019, the secondary education department sent a requisition for the appointment of 1282 teachers in Sanskrit secondary schools.

Similarly, the responsibility of appointing teachers in colleges was given to the Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Service Commission. Now, both these institutions have been merged with the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission formed last year. Officials at the newly formed commission say that the commission has not got the responsibility of appointing Sanskrit teachers.

Due to the delay in the appointment of regular teachers, teachers are being selected on ad hoc basis in aided Sanskrit secondary schools from 2019. Almost half of the teaching posts are lying vacant. According to the report presented in the meeting held on March 17, 2023, out of 2085 posts in aided Sanskrit secondary schools, 1021 were vacant.

Out of 570 created posts of principals 307 were vacant and out of 403 posts of principals in colleges 249 were vacant. Also, of the 1889 posts of teachers 929 were vacant..
