It is not very often that a play in English comes along and when it does, anglophone theatre lovers go wild. In April, one such production will enrich Nicosia’s cultural scene. Not only that, but it will also contribute to the specialised transport for people with limited mobility of the Cyprus Red Cross Society.

Mark your calendars for Safetown! The comedy follows John and Mary who keep changing towns, desperately trying to find a place which is safe enough to settle down but each town they move to turns out to be as bad or even worse than the one they were in before. When they finally move to a place called Safetown, thinking it must be safe, little do they know what horror lies ahead. A town in which everyone’s a thief including the Bishop, the Mayor, even the police itself.

The centre of attraction becomes a painting, hanging in the couple’s living room. Several performances will take place; April 3 to 5 and 7 to 9, all of course in English. All of the proceeds raised from the play will be donated to the Cyprus Red Cross Society, as supported by the Rotary Club of Nicosia and the British High Commission.
