Darul Uloom, the prominent Islamic seminary in Deoband, lifted its ban on women's entry, allowing them access under newly established guidelines, effective from Friday. The management announced women entering the campus are now required to wear a hijab and must be accompanied by a family member. The revised rules follow an earlier ban imposed on May 17 due to concerns about women allegedly recording videos on campus and posting them on social media, which the institution stated was affecting its students.
Ashraf Usmani, Darul Uloom’s media in-charge, said the seminary’s management reached this decision after extensive discussions. As part of the new policy, women will be allowed entry only until sunset and mobile phones must be handed over at the main gate upon arrival. The phones will be returned upon departure, with videography strictly prohibited throughout the campus.
