Chamber Spotlight: "In this business, you build yourself out of a job," said HighCraft Builders CEO Tim Seifert. "So, every time you get a job, you have to be looking for the next job, because they don't last forever."

Tim Seifert, of HighCraft Builders, has a long history of residential and commercial development on the Central Coast, first moving to the Santa Maria area at the age of 17 to work on the Country Club-Bower Estates subdivisions. After an extensive career in the industry, he and business partner Paul Edwards, started their own development company to foster the growth that drives businesses — and the city — forward. Since arriving in Santa Maria, Seifert has worked in many different positions, including senior vice president for Dan Blough Construction and as a partner in the developers' commercial building business.

Seifert's impact on Santa Maria is not limited to his development and construction work, however. He is a member, and was previously the president, of the Rotary Club of Santa Maria (Breakfast), and is currently serving on the City's Community Development Block Grant Advisory Committee. He has held a seat on the Santa Maria Planning Commission since first being appointed in 2016, and was Planning Commission Chair for two years, before Robert Dickerson became chairperson this year.

Tim Seifert said that he and partner Paul Edwards started HighCraft Builders Inc. in 2022 to offer a range of services to commercial and residential customers on the Central Coast. After the death of Dan Blough in February 2022, Seifert and then-employee Edwards talked about continuing on in the development industry; with the two creating HighCraft Builders in that same year.

"Paul and I decided that we weren't ready, that I wasn't ready, to retire, and he wanted to keep going," Seifert said. "He was an employee at the time, and he said, 'If we wanted to be a partner, then he would be interested in continuing the business and moving on,' and that's what we decided to do," Seifert said. Edwards, who returned to the Central Coast after working as a high-end residential developer in Colorado, was a professional race car driver after beginning as a Kart racer in Santa Maria in his youth.

"I talked to his father, and he said Paul was coming back into town, 'I said, please have him give me a call,'" Seifert explained. Now with nearly 50 years of experience in the industry and in Santa Maria's development community, Seifert and Edwards are focused on commercial and residential development under their new partnership. HighCraft Builders specializes in a wide range of construction options including new commercial building, commercial tenant improvements as well as the construction of new custom residential homes, restorations and building ADUs.

Their work can be found in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, with Seifert pointing to the company's work remodeling Santa Maria's Old Valley Hospital into a residential development, doctors offices in Arroyo Grande as well as commercial work at the Santa Maria Airport and for VTC Enterprises. He said that HighCraft Builders has recently hired a new superintendent and that they are always looking for new projects, adding that in his industry, you never know what is around the corner. "In this business, you build yourself out of a job," Seifert said.

"So, every time you get a job, you have to be looking for the next job, because they don't last forever." Learn more about their work, see photos from past projects and learn how you can put High Craft Builders to work for you by visiting their website, highcraftbuilders.com .
