The National Weather Service San Francisco has issued a series of advisories as a potent weather system sweeps through the region, bringing high surf conditions and gusty winds. According to the NWS San Francisco forecast, west and northwest-facing beaches can expect breaking waves reaching 25 to 30 feet from early Thursday through Friday morning. Beachgoers are warned to exercise extreme caution; the ocean's strength during such events should not be underestimated.

Furthermore, the Northern Monterey Bay area has received a Beach Hazards Statement due to breaking waves ranging between 15 to 20 feet. NWS officials advise the public to remain vigilant, stay out of the water, and avoid turning their backs to the sea to prevent being caught by sudden waves or strong rip currents. Similar conditions are also anticipated along other parts of the coast, with heightened risks for inexperienced swimmers and a strong recommendation to keep pets leashed and away from the waves.

The latest Area Forecast Discussion from the NWS provides a detailed outlook for the coming days. A brief dry spell is forecasted for Friday and Saturday, offering a short respite before a new system brings additional light to moderate rain starting Sunday. This next wave of precipitation is predicted to intensify by mid-week, providing much-needed moisture to the region.

Today's conditions include overcast skies, cool temperatures, and light rain accompanied by moderate wind. Temperatures are dropping closer to typical seasonal averages, with coastal highs in the upper 50s to low 60s. Meanwhile, the Bay Area and Central Coast witness light rainfall, contributing to a cumulative total that will likely be modest but appreciated, especially across the thirsty North Bay landscapes.

"Totals from this event won't be too impressive, with most sites south of the Golden Gate seeing up to a quarter of an inch and up to half an inch across the North Bay," the National Weather Service noted. Despite the rain's minor impact, gusty conditions may necessitate securing outdoor items as widespread gusts between 20 to 30 mph are expected..
