The Wilmington High football team dominated the action Saturday afternoon against Kennedy Catholic. The Greyhounds allowed zero total yards in a 58-0 District 10, Region 1-1A/2A road win over the Golden Eagles. Wilmington (1-0 region, 3-1 overall) raced to a 21-0 lead after one quarter.

Freddie Zehetner hauled in two touchdown tosses from Wesley Vass-Gal in the frame. Jamie Miller and Michael Mistretta also scored two touchdowns for the Greyhounds. Zehetner led Wilmington in yardage, racking up 60 receiving yards on two catches.



The Greyhounds tallied 60 total yards through the air and 180 on the ground. Kennedy Catholic falls to 0-1, 0-3. Wilmington is idle this week.

The Greyhounds are back on the field at 7 p.m. Sept.

27 at Farrell for a region matchup. Wilmington competes in Class 1A, while the Steelers are a Class 2A squad. Boys golf ELLWOOD TOPS LAUREL Jordan Keller led the Ellwood City Lincoln High boys golf team to a win Friday afternoon.

Keller carded a 36 to pace the Wolverines to a 206-222 WPIAL Section 5-2A win over Laurel on the par-36 back nine at Sylvan Heights. Gino Biondi chipped in a 38 for Ellwood City (12-0, 15-0) and Jaxon Rozanski recorded a 41. Nate Kennedy collected a 45 and Andy Lin followed with a 46.

Eli Bintrim paced the Spartans (5-6) with a 40, while Seth Gilmore contributed a 41 and Dillon Dugan scored a 42. Nolan Dugan followed with a 47 and Talon Bailey was next with a 52. The teams will compete in the section qualifiers on Monday.

Boys soccer Story continues below video ELLWOOD BLANKED The Wolverines dropped a 12-0 Section 2-2A home decision to Avonworth. Girls soccer WILMINGTON LOSES The Lady Greyhounds lost a 3-0 District 10, nonregion clash to Avonworth on Saturday. The Lady Antelopes held a 2-0 halftime advantage.

Wilmington’s Brianna Jenkins made seven saves. The Lady Greyhounds (3-4) entertain Greenville at 7 p.m.

Tuesday. Cross country WILMINGTON COMPETES The Greyhounds’ Tully Caiazza took seventh in 17:22 at the Commodore Perry Invitational. Bryce Johnston followed in 14th for Wilmington in 17:45.

Central Clarion won the boys team title with 88 points. Wilmington finished sixth with 222 markers. Central Clarion captured the girls team championship with 99 points.

The Lady Greyhounds did not field a complete team. Elizabeth Bobosky finished 48th for Wilmington in 23.41 and teammate June Stephens placed 62nd in 24:17.
