David Kwiat was on fire Friday night for the Neshannock High boys basketball team. David Kwiat poured in a career-high 48 points to pace the Lancers to an 89-32 WPIAL Section 4-2A home win over Western Beaver. Kwiat made 20 total field goals, including six from behind the arc.

He added five steals as well. Neshannock (10-1 section, 15-2 overall) scored the game’s first 20 points. Western Beaver (0-12, 2-17) finally got on the board on a jumper with 2:21 left in the opening frame.



Jake Rynd recorded 10 rebounds and six assists to go with his six markers. Neshannock travels to South Side Beaver at 3 p.m.

Saturday. UNION 70, ROCHESTER 42 The Scotties built an 11-point lead after one quarter and rolled to a Section 4-2A home win over the Rams. Union (9-3, 15-5) held a 21-10 margin after one quarter and increased it to 45-21 at the half.

Landon Eckert led the Scotties with 19 points and Lucas Stanley was next with 18 markers, seven assists and five steals. Jamel Mitchell contributed 10 points and six rebounds. “We got out of the gate the first two quarters,” Union coach Mark Stanley said.

“Landon Eckert has been playing great for us. He picked us up. I’m very pleased with how he played.

” Nate Bills bucketed 15 points for Rochester (2-10, 5-14). Union visits South Side Beaver at 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday. KENNEDY CATHOLIC 61, WILMINGTON 44 The Greyhounds struggled in the second half in a District 10, Region 1-1A/2A road loss to the Golden Eagles. Wilmington trailed 22-19 at the half.

However, the Greyhounds were outscored 39-25 in the final 16 minutes. Freddie Zehetner netted 21 points for Wilmington and Wesley Vass-Gal added 10. Rayvion Venable tossed in 33 tallies to lead Kennedy Catholic.

Wilmington travels to Jamestown at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

SHENANGO 75, OUR LADY OF THE SACRED HEART 70 The Wildcats buried eight 3-pointers to capture a key Section 4-2A road decision over the Chargers. The game was played at Cornell. Joe Campoli collected a game-best 25 points for Shenango (7-5, 9-10) and Taegan Russo recorded 24.

Russo made eight 3-pointers. Tiernan McCullough scored 23 points to lead Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (10-2, 15-5). Story continues below video Shenango visits Western Beaver at 7:30 p.

m. Tuesday. LAUREL 68, SOUTH SIDE BEAVER 58 Jayden Iorio netted 23 points to pace the Spartans to a Section 4-2A home victory over the Rams.

Laurel (4-8, 10-10) trailed 13-12 after one quarter before forging a 31-25 buffer at the break. The Spartans pushed the lead to 51-41 after three stanzas. Luca Santini supplied 18 markers for Laurel and Vern Sipe added 11.

Carter Wilson scored 21 points for South Side Beaver (4-8, 9-10). Laurel travels to Neshannock at 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday. MOHAWK 63, BEAVER FALLS 50 The Warriors took control in the second quarter in a Section 1-3A road win over the Tigers. Mohawk (9-1, 16-4) led 15-13 after one quarter before pushing it to 38-23 at the half.

Bobby Fadden paced the Warriors with 26 points and Joey Nail was next with 16. Drew Wrona tossed in 13. Jason Frank led Beaver Falls (1-9, 1-17) with 14 points.

Mohawk hosts Aliquippa at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Bowling NEW CASTLE TEAMS SWEEP The Red Hurricane boys team rolled to a 7-0 win over Rochester. New Castle (9-0) posted school marks of team high game (1,073) and team high series (3,066) in the victory in clinching the WPIBL Northwest section crown. Iziah Naugle scored the high game of 279 and a 639 series for New Castle, while Cameron Italia added a 264 game and the high series of 671.

Jonah Clare contributed a 625 series and Josh Pitzer notched a 600 series. The Lady ‘Canes (5-4) scored a 5-2 victory over Rochester. Jenalyn Nero posted the high game of 171 and high series of 440 for New Castle.

Joelle Bradley also contributed a 164 game and 394 series. Both teams will finish off the regular season in a home match against Butler on Wednesday at Sims Lanes. rponiewasz@ncnewsonline.
