Photo by Peggy Grodinsky In business since 2017, HiFi Donuts announced Tuesday that it will be closing in April because the owners have been unable to renegotiate their lease. The donut shop, in Monument Square, said in an Instagram post that its last day at 30 City Center will be April 17.
“This is not our choice, because of that we will be looking for the right space for us to move to,” the post states in part. “We hope that this is not the end of HiFi Donuts, but the beginning of something new and exciting.” Owners Melissa and Ari Modugno could not immediately be reached for more details on their plans.
HiFi Donuts prides itself on not using any seed or soy oils. Instead, they cook their donuts in lard and their breakfast and lunch items in tallow. “We were unsure when we first started how you, the public, would react to your favorite round treats being fried in a traditional fats like lard, but we let the taste speak for itself,” their post stated.
“And as we expanded on the menu the use of tallow to cook breakfast and lunch items shows a need for alterative/traditional cooking methods.” Comments are no longer available on this story Send questions/comments to the editors. « Previous.
