Hickory Police Chief Reed Baer will retire July 1, according to a release from the city of Hickory. Baer was hired as chief on Feb. 1, 2023.

He started working for Hickory Police in 1997 as a patrol officer, according to a release from the city. Baer "I am proud to be a product of the Hickory Police Department and this community," Baer said in the release. "It has been an honor to serve in the role of police chief for the department where I learned how to be a police officer.



Serving my hometown alongside the very best law enforcement professionals has certainly been a privilege." City Manager Warren Wood added, "Reed has been a pivotal leader in our city, steering the police department with integrity, humility, and innovative vision."
