The new deal is a vote of confidence in the 25-year-old, who had his 2024 campaign all but dashed by a hip drop tackle which forced Lonergan to undergo two operations on a fractured and dislocated ankle.

Lonergan is the latest domino to fall in contract negotiations at Brumbies headquarters, with Rugby Australia officials locked in talks designed to keep some of the Wallabies' biggest stars on home soil. Overseas rivals are circling Noah Lolesio and Tom Wright, with their contract calls likely to have an impact on the rest of the Brumbies' off-contract contingent. Tom Hooper is already bound for Exeter, and Len Ikitau is on the verge of joining him in England on a sabbatical deal which would allow him to return to the Wallabies line-up midway through 2026 and make a Super Rugby comeback in 2027.

Lonergan's decision to stay in Canberra follows Nick Frost's call to stay in the capital alongside Brumbies captain Allan Alaalatoa until the end of 2027 , while Rob Valetini's contract runs for another two years with scope for a sabbatical. Lachie Lonergan's new deal has given the Brumbies a reason to celebrate. Picture by Karleen Minney "I'm stoked to be remaining in Canberra for two more years, a place where I grew up and love representing as a Brumby," Lonergan said.

"I'm really motivated to continue to work hard on the field and earn more opportunities to represent my club, and hopefully my country, with some major milestones on the horizon in Australian rugby." Lonergan has played 52 games for the Brumbies since making his Super Rugby debut against the Chiefs in 2020, while also appearing in eight Tests - and scoring a match-winning try against Wales - since his debut in 2021. Brumbies set to make game day call on Tualima "We're really pleased to see Lachlan extend his contract for another two years, not long after reaching 50 caps for the Brumbies," Brumbies chief executive Phil Thomson said.

"He has become an extremely important part of the team here and has developed into an impressive player, with a solid set-piece and terrific carrying abilities. "We're always delighted to see Canberra locals come through the pathway system and develop into top-class, professional rugby players, as Lachlan and his brother Ryan have done. We're looking forward to seeing him continue to give his all in the Brumbies colours.
