Summary: The SteamOS version of the Lenovo Legion Go S is now available for pre-order, and it has a higher price than initially stated. This might turn off some buyers. Although the price isn’t that much higher.
Lenovo’s Legion Go S with SteamOS handheld just went up for pre-order this week, which means it’s going to be launching soon, but the price is a little more than people were probably expecting. That’s because Lenovo had initially announced that it was going to launch the SteamOS version of the Legion Go S at the price of $499.99.
However, it seems that isn’t going to happen, because Best Buy has the pre-order listing up, and the handheld costs more than that.Lenovo hasn’t made any official statements about the price hike. However, it seems possible that this is just another case of computing electronics getting a price increase due to tariffs (we’re speculating on that, of course).
We’ve already seen several price increases on GPUs. So it probably shouldn’t be too surprising to see the Legion Go S come to market with a slightly higher price than promised. That being said, some customers may not be thrilled with the higher price.
The Legion Go S now costs the same amount as Valve’s base OLED model of the Steam Deck at $549.99.The Lenovo Legion Go S launches at a price of $549.
99While the Legion Go S is going to be $50 more than initially expected, it might still be a better deal than the Steam Deck OLED. At least if you’re more concerned with performance. It may not have an OLED display, but it does have a more powerful processor.
That might result in better performance, though time will tell.According to The Verge, the Ryzen Z2 Go chip that they tested inside the Windows model of the Legion Go S didn’t blow them away. The Steam Deck OLED even reportedly performed better.
So it’s tough to say whether or not the Steam OS model will be able to outperform the Steam Deck OLED. SteamOS is a bit lighter and seems to use fewer resources than Windows 11. So perhaps it’s possible.
Putting the performance aside, the Legion Go S does come with some other improvements. Such as Hall Effect joysticks and a larger display. Even if the performance still ends up being better on the Steam Deck OLED, Lenovo’s handheld may be the better fit for you if you want a bigger screen and those other benefits.
The handheld will be released on May 25If the increased price didn’t scare you away, you can place your pre-order at Best Buy as of this week. It’s also confirmed that the handheld will be released on May 25. That means you’ll still have to wait about two months before you can actually use it.
The wait might be worth it, though. The original Legion Go is a pretty good handheld. Taking SteamOS and putting on an improved version of that doesn’t really sound like a bad thing.
