Here's how far LSU fell in the College Football Playoff rankings after losing to Alabama

LSU football has fallen to No. 22 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, the CFP committee revealed Tuesday.

The Tigers were No. 15 heading into last Saturday's showdown with Alabama . They lost 42-13 despite being undefeated in home night games under coach Brian Kelly.



Alabama slid in at No. 10 in the rankings after dominating LSU. Last week, the committee's first rankings reveal of the season, Alabama earned the final at-large bid as the No.

11 team in the pecking order. Ole Miss (11), Tennessee (7) and Texas (3) were the other Southeastern Conference schools to join the Crimson Tide in the projected playoff field. Ole Miss leapfrogged LSU and others in the rankings after pulling off an upset over Georgia last Saturday.

The next closest SEC team to make the 12-team field was Georgia at No. 12 in the rankings and the first team out of the field. Texas A&M (15), South Carolina (21) and Missouri (23) also cracked the committee's top 25 from the SEC.

The No. 1 team in the committee's rankings was Oregon. Ohio State (2), Penn State (4) and Indiana (5) were the remaining teams from the Big Ten that made this week's playoff field.

The Big 12 and ACC had one team apiece. Miami, despite losing this past weekend to Georgia Tech, made the field as the No. 9 team and the projected ACC champion.

BYU was picked as the Big 12's projected conference champion and as the No. 6 team in the rankings. Notre Dame (8) also cracked the top 12.

And for a second consecutive week, Boise State (13) made the projected field as the fifth-highest rated conference champion. LSU's loss Saturday was its third of the season and essentially eliminated it from making the 12-team playoff. It now only has a 6.

1% chance of making the playoff, according to ESPN's College Football Power Index. With two losses in SEC play, the Tigers' best and potentially only path to making the playoff is to win the SEC championship game. But their odds of reaching the title game are slim, even if they win their remaining three contests against Florida, Vanderbilt and Oklahoma.

There are eight SEC teams with two or fewer losses in conference play. Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M are the only teams remaining in the conference with just one loss in the conference. The Aggies have two losses overall, dropping their first contest of the season against Notre Dame.

They face New Mexico State this Saturday before finishing their SEC slate against Auburn and Texas. Texas travels to Arkansas this weekend before playing Kentucky at home and Texas A&M in College Station. Tennessee faces Georgia on the road this weekend in its biggest test yet this season.

LSU will try to avoid its first three game losing streak under Kelly this Saturday when the Tigers travel to Gainesville and take on Florida (2:30 p.m., ABC).
