It is a new month, and of course, new shows will make their way onto Showmax, MultiChoice’s streaming service. There are a lot of shows which will have been aired on DStv. These include the much-anticipated second season of The Last Of Us, which debuts Express from the US at 4 am.
That is at the same time as the US broadcast. And then soon after it will be on Showmax. But, there are shows which will hit Showmax first, including but not limited to originals from the streaming service.
Here is what to watch First on Showmax in April 2025. Series Power Book III: Raising Kanan S4 | First on Showmax | Binge the first five episodes from Monday, 14 April Kanan, Raq, and the rest of the Thomas family return for a new season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, filling in the gaps leading up to the deadly showdown in the Season 3 finale. Already renewed for a fifth season, Raising Kanan is a prequel to the hit crime drama Power and stars Mekai Curtis as the young Kanan Stark (played in the original series by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who once again exec produces here).
As Kanan’s ruthless mother, Raq, Tony Award winner Patina Miller picked up her second Black Reel Award nomination last year. She’s also been nominated twice at the Women’s Image Network Awards, where the show was nominated for Best Drama Series. The Handmaid’s Tale S6 | First On Showmax | Wednesdays from 9 April In the sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale, June’s unyielding spirit and determination pull her back into the fight to take down Gilead.
Elisabeth Moss returns to her Emmy-winning role as June, alongside fellow Emmy winners Ann Dowd, Bradley Whitford, and Samira Wiley, and Emmy nominees Yvonne Strahovski, Max Minghella, O-T Fagbenle, and Madeline Brewer. Based on Margaret Atwood’s dystopian classic, The Handmaid’s Tale has been hailed as “more relevant than ever’ by MSNBC and is one of the most anticipated TV shows of 2025, according to everyone from Deadline to The Hollywood Reporter, Variety to Vanity Fair. The first five seasons won 15 Emmys, with an 83% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.

Poppa’s House S1 | First on Showmax | Binge from Monday, 28 April Damon Wayans stars as happily divorced Poppa, a legendary talk radio host who has his point of view challenged: at work when a new female co-host is hired, and at home where he finds himself still parenting his adult son, a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband.
His real-life son, Damon Wayans Jr, co-stars, alongside Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson (Good Trouble). Movies Kites | Showmax Original | Stream from Friday, 25 April Kites follows Sihle, who reluctantly agrees to chauffeur his DJ friends around Joburg for their big audition at the city’s hottest club. Their night takes a wild turn when they end up having to get rid of a dead body.
Craig Nobela (Nkosiyabo on The Queen) stars as Sihle, with Aphiwe Mkefe (Oscar-shortlisted Lakutshon ’Ilanga) and Marcus Molemane (The Estate) as the DJs Links and Neo. Also look out for Wanda Zuma (Nkosi Zwide in House of Zwide). Adam | Showmax Original | Stream from Friday, 4 April Adam follows a headstrong teenager who clashes with his idealistic teacher at a militaristic farm school.
Rising star Marko Vorster (Francois in Donkerbos) plays Adam, with Dirk Stoltz (DeWet Basson in 7de Laan) as his teacher and SAFTA nominee Inge Beckmann (Wyfie, 8) as his mother. The stacked cast also includes 2024 SAFTA Best Actress winner Antoinette Louw (DAM), Dillon Windvogel (Spinners), and Paul Strydom (Reënboogrant). The topical drama is written by Winford Collings and directed by Liyema Speelman, inspired by their own brutal experiences at high school.
Sterring | Showmax Original | Stream from Friday, 4 April Inspired by 90s action movies, Ramz dreams of becoming a hero who can take down bullies like Shaka. His dream turns into reality when he accidentally saves a superstar actress from a mugging, earning him the reputation of a real-life Sterring. His newfound fame puts him in the crosshairs of Bra Tony, a powerful businessman and underground drug kingpin whose empire starts crumbling because of Ramz’s growing influence.
SAFTA nominee Mathews Rantsoma (Adulting S3) stars as Ramz, opposite Sabelo Majola (Generations: The Legacy) as the menacing Shaka and Siphiwe Nkosi (Isibaya) as the ruthless Bra Tony. Pheletso | Showmax Original | Stream from Friday, 18 April After growing up with her aunt in the suburbs, Thandi is forced to move back to the township and in with her estranged mother, Phindi, due to her poor academic performance at school. Pamela Mabedumane (Umzi Watsha) stars as Thandi, with SAFTA nominee Talitha Ndima (Soft Life) as Phindi.
Also look out for Zukisa Matola (Uzalo) and Lebo Pelesane (Muvhango). Part of Showmax’s first-time directors slate in partnership with The Joburg Film Festival, Ndingowakho is helmed by Siphokazi Mtila and produced by multi-award winners Urban Brew. Reality TV Paris & Nicole: The Encore | First on Showmax | Binge from Thursday, 10 April More than 20 years after OG reality icons Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie first took the world by storm, the life-long friends reunite in Peacock’s three-part special, Paris & Nicole: The Encore.
Follow the dynamic duo as they try to produce a once-in-a-lifetime operatic performance based on their self-coined phrase “Sanasa” – a funny song the girls often sang in their groundbreaking show The Simple Life. Denise Richards & Her Wild Things S1 | First on Showmax | Stream from Tuesday, 8 April Step into the glamorous yet chaotic world of Denise Richards as the actress, model and, most importantly, mother navigates the complexities of blended family life with her daughters and new husband, Aaron Phypers.
