Filmmaker Priyadarshan, known for his iconic work in comedy films, has shared some exciting updates about the much-anticipated third installment of the beloved Hera Pheri series. In a recent interview with ETV, Priyadarshan revealed that he plans to begin writing Hera Pheri 3 next year. With Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, and Suniel Shetty reprising their roles, fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the iconic trio.
However, the director has acknowledged the significant pressure that comes with the high expectations from the audience.Priyadarshan on the Success of the Original Hera PheriPriyadarshan, who directed the first Hera Pheri film, has been an integral part of the franchise’s success. Reflecting on the unexpected popularity of the original film, he admitted, “I was very confident that Hera Pheri would work but I never expected it to become a cult film.
It had decent humour and excellent performances. People never believed that Akshay, Suniel and Paresh can pull off a comedy because those days they were doing different kinds of movies. But it surprised them, and the success of Hera Pheri was a turning point in their career.
”The Long Road to Hera Pheri 3The journey to Hera Pheri 3 has not been smooth, with several obstacles delaying its progress. Originally set to be directed by Fahad Samji and produced by Feroz Nadiadwala, the film faced numerous legal and production-related issues. But now, with Akshay Kumar confirming that Priyadarshan will return as director, the film seems to be back on track.
Acknowledging the immense expectations surrounding Hera Pheri 3, Priyadarshan shared his thoughts on the challenges of making a sequel after such a long gap. He noted, “It is going to be very challenging to make the third part because there will be too many expectations. People are waiting to see Akshay, Paresh and Suniel again, and we always say that it is easy to make people cry, it is easy to scare people but to make them laugh is very difficult and that too without using double entendre dialogues.
.. you have to make humour so pure and identifiable.
Then, humor also changes, and the taste of society changes. We have to catch up with that. Characters have gotten older, and accordingly, people should believe.
.. these are important things.
I am taking it as a challenge. Let’s see how it works.”Fans have been eagerly waiting for the reunion of the original cast, and Priyadarshan’s confirmation of the film has only fueled their excitement.
The director also hinted that writing for the film would start in 2026, with the pressure to meet fans' high expectations firmly in his mind.Priyadarshan's Current Project: Bhoot BanglaMeanwhile, Priyadarshan is currently working on another film, Bhoot Bangla, which also stars Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, and Tabu, reuniting the trio after many years. While the Hera Pheri 3 script may take some time to develop, the film's eventual release is sure to be a major event for Bollywood fans.
