A man accused by the police to have allegedly raped a grade three girl twice has appeared in court. The accused is an adult male from Dauli village in Tari Pori district in Hela Province. Police allege that the suspect on two different occasions, raped a minor who was doing her grade three at a primary school (named) in Port Moresby.
Police allege that the first occasion was on September 11, 2024, at the victim’s school at 9-mile. The victim was watching their school cultural show when the accused showed up and forced her into a bus headed to Gordons. The victim called out to the driver to stop, but the defendant kept telling the driver to continue driving and allegedly forced the girl to remove her uniform and put it in a bag.
They got off at Erima where the defendant took the victim to a bush and allegedly raped her then took her back to the school and left her. The second incident was in the morning of September 30, 2024. Police allege that the victim was on her way to school when the defendant approached her and allegedly dragged her onto a bus to Gordons and took her to the same location in the bush at 7-mile and allegedly raped her again then dropped her off at the school.
When the victim returned home, her uncle questioned her as to where she was during the day and beat her up. Scared, the victim told her uncle of the two rape incidents by the same suspect. The victim was then taken to the hospital and later a complaint was laid leading to the arrest of the man who is now facing court for allegedly having sexual relations with a minor contravening the Criminal Code Act.
