By Philip Shimnom Clement Heifer International Nigeria have launched the 2025 Agriculture Youth and Technology (AYuTe) Challenge for Agriculture innovators and entrepreneurs as part of efforts to drive food security. Speaking at the Launch in Abuja on Thursday, Dr. Lekan Tobe, Country Director, Heifer International Nigeria said the Initiative recognize the importance of youth leveraging the opportunity of Nigeria’s agricultural landscape to find employment, become entrepreneurs, and multiply employment as they become entrepreneurs “So far, we have empowered over 46 million smaller farmers across three continents of South America, Asia and Africa.
In Africa, we’ve been here for over 50 years in eight countries impacting agriculture as we facilitate and coordinate activities and stakeholders within the food system. “The 2025 AYuTe challenge has a price money of $40,000, but we look beyond the award itself, We hold the winners and walk them through until they become fully commercialized with their technologies and then they can stand on their own while leveraging technology and innovative practices to get to scale a permanent impact. “The challenge is open to youths 18 to 35 with innovative challenge in the agric value change that can solve a problem, create employment and ensure food sufficiency because we want also to align ourselves with the programmes and vision of the government of Nigeria on food security,” the country director explained He further stated that the grand finale which will be in May 2025 will present winners with the cash price and ensure that they are guided to fully implement the innovative solution that will address challenges of small holder farmers in Nigeria.
