Heavy rains likely in state today; two districts on yellow alert

Heavy rain is defined as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is expected in 24 hours.



The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that light rain is likely in isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam in the next three hours. Yellow alert has been issued in Ernakulam on Saturday. The IMD has warned that there is a possibility of rain with thunder in isolated places in Kerala till Monday.

Thunderstorms are dangerous. As soon as you see the first sign of thunder, should immediately move inside a safe building. Remaining in open areas will increase the risk of being struck by lightning.

During time of strong winds and thunderstorms, windows and doors should be closed. Do not stand near doors and windows. Stay inside the building and try to avoid touching the walls or floor as much as possible.
