Two men have been arrested following heavy police presence on a town centre street yesterday. Police were called to Newport Street in Bolton on Saturday (November 9) at 5.15pm to reports of men "riding motorbikes down a pedestrian street".
Officers arrested two men, both on suspicion of going equipped with intent to steal, with one also being arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and the other on suspicion of possession of class A drugs. A GMP spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Newport Street at 5.15pm yesterday, November 9, to reports of men riding motorbikes down a pedestrian street.

Police on scene (Image: Newsquest) Six police vehicles could be seen on the street, three vans and three cars. Officers could be seen speaking to a man at the back of a van before he was put inside it. There was no cordon in place and traffic could get past before they all left the scene shortly before 6pm.
One eyewitness said: "A lad drove up on a bike. The officers arrested him on the scene." Another said: "I just came out and saw all of the police out there.
They were looking at a motorbike.".
