California's skies are set to sizzle as an unexpected heatwave looms, with a promising first weekend expected at Coachella festival.

California could be about to experience its first heatwave of the year as temperatures are set to warm up in April. In parts of Ventura County this week , Wednesday and Thursday look likely to be the warmest with temperatures reaching 15 to 20 degrees above normal. In local valleys, such as the Ojai and Simi Valley areas, temperatures could reach into the 90s.

Similar conditions are expected further south, after experiencing altogether mild temperatures in the first half of the week, places such as San Diego should expect a rise in temperatures for the second half. The heatwave is expected to happen for the entire state between April 10-14 and even extends to much of the West of the USA.

During this time frame, temperatures are set to be 5 to nearly 20 degrees above average. Between April 12-18, temperatures will begin to cool but remain above normal for much of California , and crucially for the first weekend of Coachella. Meanwhile, windier conditions will arrive in the desert areas.

Coachella Festival goers should think about packing extra fans and dressing for hotter temperatures, as forecasters from the National Weather Service are predicting it to rise between the mid-80s and low 90s degrees wise. This will make a welcome change from last year's festival, as the first weekend saw lower temperatures with windy and dusty conditions..
