Almost £1 million is waiting to be distributed to healthcare projects across South Holland. Spalding , Holbeach , Crowland, Gosberton and Moulton are among the areas set to benefit from the windfall. Information made public by South Holland District Council shows the authority is currently holding £997,584.
16 of Section 106 cash on behalf of the NHS. Section 106 funding comes from community contributions made by housing developers to ease the burden on local infrastructure in light of the increases made to populations by additional housing. Money can be requested to aid healthcare, education and road/transport projects, with this £1 million solely the NHS’ pot.
More than a quarter of this money - £252,471.35 - was raised within the 2024/25 financial year through six allocations of funds. “The ICB applies for funding on behalf of general practice and works with practices to ensure they utilise funds when they become available,” a Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board statement said.
“The ICB continues to support a number of practices across the county to develop plans to improve and expand their sites with the available funding. “Development of primary care estates remains a key enabler to support good access to primary medical services, with s106 a key source of estates funding in Lincolnshire. “Ongoing collaborative working arrangements with local council colleagues in relation to s106 agreements will continue to alleviate the impact of a housing development through securing financial contributions for public services, to support safe and resilient general practice services in Lincolnshire.
” The Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board are currently working with medical centres on a number of projects. They are hoping to add additional consulting rooms to Littlebury Medical Centre in Holbeach while £25,000 of investment is set to be ploughed into Abbeyview Surgery in Crowland in the near future. Abbeyview currently has eight allocations of funds to access, with two of them needing to be spent by February and August next year.
A plan is in place to utilise the funding to increase capacity on the site, working with landlord NHS Property Service on these plans. The ICB are also working with Munro Medical Centre in Spalding for a £45,548 expansion of the surgery’s car park. On top of this they are also consulting Gosberton Medical Centre and Beechfield Medical Centre in Spalding on project plans that will utilise funds available to them.
Moulton Surgey hopes to soon be in a position to review plans to utilise the S106 money available to them. Additionally, the ICB have supported £30,000 on a retrospective claim for Munro at their Pinchbeck branch site during 2024. All allocations are location-specific, meaning S106 funds can only be used in the areas which serve the developments where the money is raised.
For example, cash raised from a housing project in Long Sutton cannot be spent on healthcare needs in Donington as there is no central pot for spending within the wider area. The NHS are responsible for spending S106 healthcare funds..
