Lakki marwat - The health department has approached the district administration for the constitution of the District Dengue Prevention and Response Unit (DDPRU) in Lakki Marwat district to launch integrated efforts for the elimination of the dengue virus and to contain the prevalence of the vector-borne disease. “In this connection, District Health Officer Dr Abdugul has sent an official letter to the deputy commissioner, requesting the notification of the DDPRU in pursuance of directives from the provincial government,” said an official on Saturday. He said that the deputy commissioner would head the unit as chairman, while the district health officer would serve as secretary.
“Other members of the DDPRU will include the public health coordinator, medical entomologist, coordinator of the National Programme for LHWs, N-STOP (National Stop Transmission of Polio) Officer, tehsil municipal officers, district education officers (male and female), executive engineers from C&W and public health engineering, assistant director of local government, and the district police officer,” he added. FMD outbreak spreading in SW due to lack of vaccination The official said that health workers had carried out fumigation in the judicial complex and surrounding residential areas to knock down the adult mosquito population. He said that, under a proactive plan, fumigation and anti-mosquito spraying were being carried out to kill mosquitoes and eliminate the dengue virus before they could pose a threat to humans.
Wheat threshing rates fixed: The Lakki Marwat district administration has fixed wheat threshing rates to facilitate farmers in getting their harvested crops threshed at controlled rates. The new rates, applicable until further orders, were decided during a meeting held at the Tehsil Building in Lakki city, with Assistant Commissioner Faqeer Hussain in the chair. Officials from the Agriculture Department, along with representatives of tractor owners and farmers’ bodies, attended the meeting.

An official said that following the meeting, the assistant commissioner notified the new rates under the Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act, 1997. He said that the owners of threshers operated by Massey/Fiat small tractors would charge Rs4,000 per hour, while those using Russian large tractors would charge Rs4,400 per hour from wheat growers.
