Realizing his huge potential, the UFC set him the task of opening up the blockbuster UFC 309 main card which is headlined by the heavyweight title fight, Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic.
Mauricio Ruffy is compared to Conor McGregor and scores incredible UFC 309 win Ruffy’s fight against Llontop was changed to a catchweight 165lb bout after the Peruvian came in unable to make the 156lb weight limit of lightweight. In round one, the sensational Brazilian striker quickly showcased why he is one of the most looked-at prospects in the UFC after blistering Llontop with a hellacious right hand, dropping him to the floor. Remaining patient, ‘One Shot’ Ruffy didn’t rush in to try and finish the fight and Llontop managed to make it back to his feet where he looked to pile some forward pressure on the 28-year-old striker.
Despite that, Ruffy continued to catch the Peruvian with huge counter right hands, which led commentator, Joe Rogan , to compare Ruffy to former UFC double champion, Conor McGregor , saying he looked like a ‘giant Conor’. Ruffy’s style is extremely similar to ‘The Notorious’ McGregor’s as he stays light on his feet and looks to catch his opponents with heavy counter shots. In round two, the 28-year-old dropped Llontop again, but this time, with a completely unique look-away uppercut, once again dropping ‘Goku’.
After an extremely impressive first two rounds, Ruffy began to slow down in the final round as Llontop continued to press forward. However, he continued to get caught with ferocious right hands and his face became more and more unrecognisable.
