Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has praised Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams . The 32-year-old Mamelodi Sundowns star was recently nominated for the Yashin Trophy becoming the first South African footballer nominated for a Ballon d’Or award. Since the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, Williams has been Bafana’s number-one keeper and over the years, he took over the captaincy.
Earlier this year, the former SuperSport United keeper played a huge role in Bafana’s Afcon campaign which saw them finish third in the tournament . Speaking to the media, Khune said Ronwen Williams’ hard work was paying off. “He’s a great guy on and off the field.
Hard-working, someone who never stops to listen, someone who never stops learning,” he said as per iDiski Tim es . “I was with him for so many years competing for the number one jersey for Bafana and I think he gave me the respect, he listened to all the advice I gave him.” Khune talks about Ronwen Williams’ Ballon d’Or snub Williams was nominated at the Ballon d’Or awards, where he eventually finished ninth for the Yashine trophy retained by Emi Martinez.
“He’s now being recognised in the world, at the Ballon d’Or. I think he deserves it, he worked hard for it..
. and suggestions he was robbed? He was competing with the best in the world,” Khune added. “So for him, in Africa, if it was CAF awards I would have given it to him because he’s done well and maybe that’s how he was judged.
