Comment as Liberals yet to make Indi promises while Farrer scores.

The Liberal Party has made more than $1 million in specific election promises for Farrer but is yet to stump up a single dollar for projects in Indi. or signup to continue reading The party's deputy federal leader Sussan Ley has been traversing the western end of her electorate this week, committing $400,000 to upgrade Tocumwal's RSL hall and $50,000 to boost wi-fi reception at Deniliquin's Memorial Park. The commitments bring the tally of promises made by the former health minister, who is facing a challenge from independent Michelle Milthorpe, to in excess of $1 million.

Ms Ley has previously said if the Coalition formed government after May 3 that there would be upgrades for , Holbrook golf club ($230,000) and . The pledges from Ms Ley are in contrast to no funding commitments having come from the Liberals for Indi, which the party is seeking to wrest back from independent incumbent Helen Haines having previously represented it from 1977 to 2013. Liberal Indi candidate James Trenery said there would be specific commitments but he could not say what they would be, only pointing to an imminent announcement.

Dr Haines pointed to Mr Trenery not supporting a single-site new Albury-Wodonga hospital as evidence of him failing to provide a clear vision for Indi. "Mr Trenery won't back a greenfield single-site hospital on the border and has no answers to help our communities experiencing power outages, childcare shortages, telecommunications, or anything else for that matter," Dr Haines said. "He clearly has no influence in his own party, or their permission to put forward any solutions for this region.

"Instead, he's misrepresented bulk-billing rates and telecommunications funding that Indi has received." Mr Trenery said there was a fundamental variation in the promises of his party and those of Dr Haines. "I'm going to make announcements starting at the end of this week and the difference between myself and Helen's housing policy is that mine's going to be funded," he said.

"That's the difference between anything I announce and that Helen announces, mine will not be unfunded." At the last federal election in 2022, the Coalition in Indi vowed it would spend $3.8 million on and outlay $3 million to upgrade the There was also a pledge to provide $500,000 for a lighting upgrade at Wodonga's Les Cheesley Oval and $2.

7 million for a reserve redevelopment at Mansfield. Dr Haines said she had drawn up policies on health, childcare, roads, energy and cost of living. "I put to the people of Indi that they have a clear and contrasting choice - my proven track record working with community and delivering local and national impact as an independent, or someone who will only be able to do as their party bosses tell them," she said.
