“Wow , if it is not the ‘sweet Sotonye’, what I do not understand is how it is any business of yours where Tobs sleeps in this house? Are you speaking as a guest or ...
? ” Jasmine asked sarcastically. Sotonye glared at Jasmine and I? I was left speechless by Jasmine’s confrontational question. Sotonye made to say something but changed her mind at the last minute, giving us a haughty venomous look she hissed and walked away.
Poor Sotonye, she is no match for Jasmine. Jasmine herself says she pities any girl unlucky enough to fall into her bad books. She particularly doesn’t like Sotonye and has been looking for a way to bring her down from her ‘high horse’.
“Hey Babes, good to see you guys, I was beginning to wonder,” Bola said standing up from the breakfast table to give Jasmine and I a hug, followed by Kaycee. Zara just sat there giving us a dirty knowing glance. “So how was he?” Zara asked salaciously.
“Who?” I asked giving her a blank stare. “Mr handsome of course, he made it plain to all last night that he couldn’t wait to get you in bed and the word being whispered around here is that you spent the night in his bed!” Zara spat out triumphantly like she had just uncovered some big state secret. “Well sorry to burst your bubble girl, it must have been a threesome because Jasmine was also in that bed,” I replied sarcastically.
“Unfortunately true,” Jasmine chipped in with a grin. Kaycee looked relieved while Bola and Zara looked disappointed, unbelievable! “This is neither the time nor place to discuss this. In case you have all conveniently forgotten this is Rick’s home and the Helpers (leading gossips in every home) are all around us.
If you guys are done I will go look for our Hostess to thank her for her hospitality and bid her goodbye” I said sternly holding up my hand as Zara attempted to continue the conversation. Rick’s Grandmother was still resting I was told and Rick was in the Study having a business Meeting online with his business Partners. I hurriedly scribbled a ‘Thank you’ note and cowardly gave it to Antonio to hand to Rick, claiming I did not want to disturb his ‘Meeting’.
The all too wise eyes of the elderly Antonio hesitated for a fraction of a second before taking the note. I hurried the girls out of the House before something else happened again and could only heave a sigh of relief when we drove out of the gates. When I got home, Jasmine opted to have breakfast with me since it was just the two of us that hadn’t had breakfast.
“Tobs, Dennis was here yesterday night to see you and we had a chat over a nice cup of tea. What a lovely young man,” my Mom said welcoming us with a smile as she opened the door to let us in. Dennis was here? Had tea and a chat with my Mom? Unacceptable, what rubbish! He broke my Rules! He had no right to talk to my Mom behind my back and since when did he start coming to my house without calling me first? I was livid with rage.
No man is going to arm twist me into marriage. I am not one of those girls who do stuff because every girl is doing it and I will be damned if I marry a man I do not love or someone I am not comfortable with because society, family or friends (thank God for my friends, they are the best. No pressure from that angle) think it’s the right thing to do.
I know so many women who do not love their husbands but for the sake of appearances tolerate them. I have promised myself I would rather remain single than fall into wrong hands. “Look at your friend, what did I say now that is upsetting her? You need to talk to her, she cannot remain single for the rest of her life, she’s not getting younger,” my Mom said her voice laden with concern.
Gosh, here we go again, this is all Dennis’ fault! Join me on Monday the 27 th of January at Warien Rose Foundation’s Support Group Meeting; Domestic Violence Anonymous at Rockview Hotel Festac Town, Lagos..
