HCBA stir against transferof Justice Varma continues

1 2 Prayagraj: On a call given by the Allahabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA), the lawyers continued to boycott judicial work on third consecutive day on Wednesday in protest against the Supreme Court collegium 's recommendation to transfer Delhi High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma to Allahabad High Court which is also his parent HC. Meanwhile, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) Bar Association also joined agitation of HC bar and boycotted the judicial work in tribunal on Wednesday. The lawyers under the aegis of HCBA continued to hold its meeting at the main gate of HC, which was presided over by its senior vice-president Rajesh Khare.

The speakers in the meeting reiterated its opposition to the transfer of Justice Varma to the Allahabad HC. They demanded withdrawal of the decision of transfer forthwith. The bar association also resolved to continue its boycott of judicial work on Thursday on the same issue.



In a resolution, the HC bar has demanded check on the ‘kith and kin' doing practice in the same HC. Further, they have demanded change in the case listing system, adding that the cases filed earlier be listed first for being taken up by the court. The bar has demanded full co-operation from the state govt counsels in the on-going boycott of work.

The HCBA has warned those lawyers, who have ignored the resolution of bar that their membership would be cancelled if they do not give proper explanation to their conduct. In a press release, signed by the secretary of bar association Vikrant Pandey, a request has been made to all the former office-bearers to be present in the old study hall on Thursday at 2 pm to give their suggestions for chalking out future course of action..
