Harry Kane has already let Tottenham Hotspur know the talent Mathys Tel possesses as they look to wrap up a deal for the teenager. Bayern Munich starlet Tel has been subject to interest from various Premier League clubs including Manchester United and Aston Villa, with just days remaining until the January transfer window slams shut on Monday. The Frenchman - who remains goalless this season - has barely featured for the German giants, making 13 appearances and earning just one start in the Bundesliga.
With Spurs working their way through an injury crisis where five attackers are currently out of action, they've made their move on the 19-year-old. While Tel has yet to make a decision on his future, the north London club are said to have verbally agreed a deal in principle worth £50million. Should the transfer go ahead smoothly, the Lilywhites will be getting a player highly rated by their all-time leading scorer Kane, who is team-mates with Tel in Bavaria.
The England captain praised the teen's mentality last season as he said: "He’s started the season really well. I like the way he trains. He’s always pushing himself and is fully committed.
Every time he came in he made a difference and is very confident. We’ll need all players." According to Jamie Redknapp, he recently spoke to Kane to sound out his opinion on Tel .
The ex-Spurs captain told Sky Sports: "He’s a very talented player, that’s for sure. 19 years of age and Tottenham have obviously signed a lot of good young players in the last few years. That seems to be the profile of what they are trying to get.
"I messaged Harry Kane earlier on and he was very complimentary about him. First of all, he said he was a great guy; wants to work, good trainer, a good finisher and has a lot of potential." Tel previously opened up about the standard Kane has set during his time in Germany and admitted he looks at the striker as a role model.
"He’s a great striker. He has shown that across his career. I’m a striker too, so he’s a role model for me," he said.
"It’s important to have people to learn from technically and in terms of finishing. Often I don’t even have to ask him. He just comes over to me and tells me: ‘Mathys, you can do that, or that’.
He’s a role model to me, and he is helping me a lot." Amid the intense speculation surrounding the forward, Ange Postecoglou refused to discuss a potential deal for Tel after his side defeated Elfsborg 3-0 on Thursday in the Europa League . "I can’t tell you anything about Tel," the Spurs boss said.
"I am focusing on getting the team ready [to face Brentford on Sunday]...
other people are working in the background." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. We also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners.
