GRAMBLING, La. — One of the most painful losses of Murray State’s 2023 soccer season was its opening match, a loss to Grambling State at Cutchin Field in Murray after the Racers had played for the Missouri Valley Conference title in 2022. In a word, Murray State looked rather dormant as a more aggressive Tiger team took a 2-0 win.

Sunday, the Racers met Grambling again, this time on the Tigers’ home field in sultry southern Louisiana. And, this time, it was the Racers having their revenge, scoring twice in the second half to even the score from last year with a 2-0 win that continues a strong start to this season at 4-3-1, while Grambling dropped to 2-5-3. It was one of the Racers’ usual suspects that provided the offense Sunday as midfielder Mary Hardy tallied seven minutes into the second half on a header shot off a Katie Stordy corner kick to break the scoreless tie.

Hardy would later score her fourth goal of the season off a Chlor Barnthouse cross with about 14 minutes left to seal the win. Barnthouse’s pass was preceded by a pass from Hailey Cole, giving Cole an assist on the play as well. Sunday marks Hardy’s second multi-goal match of the season.

It is also the second mutli-goal match of her Racer career. Racer goal-keeper Griselda Revolorio continues her strong play in net this season as she earned her second shutout of the season, having to only handle four of Grambling’s six shots on the day as the Racers sent 12 shots at the Tiger net..
