
JAMESTOWN — The Hankinson boys’ basketball team withstood a second half comeback attempt from Edgeley/Kulm-Montpelier to get a 65-58 win in overtime in the first round game between The Pirates took an early 6-4 lead and they were able to stretch it out to 17-11 and they kept it up from there to take a 19-13 lead into the second quarter. ADVERTISEMENT The Pirates were able to push the lead out to 22-13, before the Rebels called a timeout. The stoppage worked in the Rebels favor who were able to bring it closer at 23-17.
However, the Pirates were able to respond once again and take a 32-19 lead before the Rebels were able to send the game into the half with the score sitting at 32-24. In the opening frame, the Pirates shot 50% from the field, 3-for-10 from three and 7-for-10 from the free throw line. The Rebels shot 34.
4% from the field, 2-for-12 from three and 0-for-2 from the free throw line. The Pirates won the rebound battle 18-13. The Pirates' biggest area of success in the opening half was their ability to get to the line and keep the Rebels off the stripe.
