The late Halyna Hutchins ‘ mother is very publicly slamming Alec Baldwin . f you don’t know the tragic story, the 42-year-old Ukrainian cinematographer was shot and killed on the set of Rust in October of 2021 when the gun that 66-year-old actor was holding went off. Alec has maintained that he never pulled the trigger.
Last year, production for Rust resumed and the movie has been completed. Ahead of Rust ‘s world premiere at Poland’s 2024 Camerimage International Film Festival on Wednesday (November 20), Halyna ‘s mother Olga Solovey shared a statement ripping into Alec for “killing” her daughter. .. “It was always my hope to meet my daughter in Poland to watch her work come alive on screen,” Olga Solovey said in a statement with T he Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday.
“Unfortunately, that was ripped away from me when Alec Baldwin discharged his gun and killed my daughter.” “Alec Baldwin continues to increase my pain with his refusal to apologize to me and his refusal to take responsibility for her death,” Olga Solovey continued. “Instead, he seeks to unjustly profit from his killing of my daughter.
That is the reason why I refuse to attend the festival for the promotion of Rust , especially now when there is still no justice for my daughter.” Alec ‘s involuntary manslaughter trial was dismissed in July after “critical” bullet evidence was introduced into the case. The Rust armorer is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence after she was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter over the fatal shooting.
Along with Olga Solovey ‘s statement, the family’s attorney Gloria Allred also shared a statement slamming Alec for how he’s handled this situation. “Even though Mr. Baldwin discharged the gun that killed Halyna , he has never called them to apologize,” Gloria said in a statement to THR .
She also noted that Alec “has disrespected Halyna’s mother, father and sister” and that in addition to his lack of apology, “even worse, he argued, through his attorneys, that Halyna was emotionally distant from her family in Ukraine. That is false, hurtful and insulting.” “The decision not to even call the family to say he is sorry is cruel and dishonors Halyna and her memory,” Gloria continued.
“Now, a decision has been made to promote Rust to buyers in order to make a profit for Alec Baldwin and others that had a role in Halyna’s death,” noting that the late cinematographer’s family “will not agree with this plan to exploit Halyna’s death.” A famous filmmaker recently shared his thoughts on the situation, saying that Alec was “10 percent responsible” for the shooting ..
