, and with the first whistle, the Penguins’ 2024-25 season will begin. The Penguins also added a fourth group for invited players, who will be on the ice at 7:30 a.m.

It’s been a long summer since the Penguins lost their final game to the New York Islanders, and Jeff Carter announced his retirement following the April 18 game. The Penguins will have 38 forwards, 25 defensemen, and six goaltenders. Four additional players, Beau Jelsma, Jagger Joshua, Matt Nieto, and Taylor Gauthier, are attending training camp but are injured and not medically cleared to participate.

Gauthier started the Penguins’ prospects game on Monday night and left as scheduled at the halfway point of the game. Jelsma was injured on Saturday against the Ottawa Senators prospect team. Jelsma played four games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins while on an Amateur Tryout last season.

He scored one goal with two assists but will return to the Barrie Colts of the OHL after camp because he is still draft-eligible and, thus, cannot be signed. Camp will also include 25 players who played at least one game for the Penguins last season. Six new players, Anthony Beauvillier, Blake Lizotte, Sebastian Aho, and Matt Grzelcyk , and trade acquisitions Kevin Hayes , Cody Glass, and Rutger McGroarty , will also be included.

High-profile draft picks Owen Pickering (2022, 21st overall), Harrison Brunicke (2024, 44th overall), and Tanner Howe (2024, 46th overall) will also attend. All practices are at the UPMC Lemieux Complex and are open to the public. Teams will scrimmage at 10 a.
