Gwalior Junior Doctor Rape Accused Arrested; Bajrang Dal Leader Arrested For Raping Woman In Kanpur

A 25-year-old junior doctor was reportedly raped by her colleague at an abandoned hostel within a government-run medical college in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The incident occurred on Sunday. The victim, who was preparing for an exam, was staying at the girls’ hostel of Gajraraja Medical College.

According to City Superintendent of Police Ashok Jadon, the accused, also a 25-year-old junior doctor who was a peer of the victim, lured her to an old boys’ hostel that has since fallen into disrepair. Once there, the accused allegedly threatened the victim and proceeded to assault her. The victim later lodged a complaint at Kampu police station following which the accused was arrested and booked under relevant legal provisions, the police said.



The police confirmed that further investigations are being conducted to understand the circumstances surrounding the case. The Gwalior rape case follows a recent case in Kolkata where a 31-year-old post-graduate doctor was brutally raped and murdered on the premises of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The prime suspect in that case has been arrested, and investigations continue amidst mounting public concern regarding the safety of medical professionals.

The incident sparked widespread outrage across India. In Kolkata, junior doctors went on strike for over a month. They were even joined by some senior doctors later.

Bajrang dal leader arrested in Kanpur for raping woman Bajrang Dal leader Dilip Singh Bajrangi was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of marriage.“Bajrangi was arrested after he attempted suicide by pouring kerosene on his face outside the Govind Nagar Police Station on Monday, alleging that he was implicated in a false rape case,” Additional DCP (South) Mahesh Kumar said. An investigation was launched against Bajrangi after a woman lodged an FIR at Collectorganj Police Station against him in November 2024, alleging that he befriended her, took her to a hotel, and raped her on the pretext of marriage.

The woman further claimed that Bajrangi also made obscene videos of her and uploaded them on social media. Bajrangi, who was absconding after the incident, arrived at the Govind Nagar Police Station on Monday along with his supporters and Bajrang Dal workers and attempted to set himself on fire while doing live streams on social media, the police said. However, his self-immolation bid outside the police station amidst public prompted police to lodge another FIR on charges of obstruction in discharging official duties and suicide attempt, the officer said.

Minors raped in UP and Maharashtra In Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly, a 22-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping a three-year-old girl. The accused was nabbed by police following a chase when he attempted to flee after committing the crime. "The accused lured the victim, who was playing outside her house, by promising to buy her toffee and chips.

The victim’s uncle, who saw the accused taking the girl away, informed her family members after she didn't return home," Circle Officer Pankaj Srivastava said. Later the girl was found lying unconscious in a field about 1.5km from her house.

The farmers working nearby told the family members they saw a young man running away from the scene after leaving the girl there, prompting the latter to launch a chase after informing police. In a swift action, Cantt police alerted their counterparts at the Bithri Chainpur police station, who then nabbed the youth from Transport Nagar after a chase, the Circle Officer. Another man was interested from UP's Siddharthnagar district for allegedly raping a minor in Maharashtra's Thane district on January 4.

The 32-year-old accused was nabbed by UP's Special Task Force (STF) and handed over to the Dombivili police on Monday. The 17-year-old victim hailed from the same village in Uttar Pradesh and lived in the same locality in Dombivili (east). In October last year, the man allegedly drugged her by offering her sweets laced with sedatives and raped her.

He allegedly raped her on multiple occasions and threatened to harm her and her brother. The girl gained the courage to lodge a complaint against the accused last month. The official said the police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).

Women's safety in India Statistics reveal that India has been recording an average of four rapes every hour, with a significant number involving acquaintances of the victims. According to data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the country has witnessed an alarming rise in reported rape cases since the 2012 Delhi Rape Case, with approximately 25,000 incidents recorded each year. Between 2017 and 2022, an average of 86 rape cases were reported daily, highlighting a troubling trend that persists despite legislative efforts to enhance legal protections.
