Staff reporter A major water pipe leakage was reported on Saturday afternoon in the Bhootnath locality of Guwahati, coinciding with an ongoing citywide flushing and testing operation by the Guwahati Jal Board (GJB). The incident occurred around 2:30 pm near the Bhootnath Chariali junction, where was seen gushing onto the streets, causing significant traffic disruption and concern among residents. According to officials, the leakage is likely the result of pressure fluctuations during the GJB’s trial run.
“During this process, minor leakages are expected at various weak points across the network,” a GJB spokesperson stated earlier in the day. Emergency teams were promptly dispatched to the site to contain the damage and initiate repair work. Meanwhile, several adjoining areas reported low water pressure, while some streets experienced temporary flooding before barricades were set up to redirect the water flow.
The Jal Board has assured the public that the issue is being addressed on priority and that water supply interruptions will be minimized. Also Read: Also Watch:.
