Gurgaon: The meteorological department has issued a yellow alert as temperatures are expected to surge by 3-5 degrees Celsius next week. While daytime temperatures are likely to reach 40-42 degrees, heatwave conditions likely from Sunday to Tuesday. A Western Disturbance may bring temporary relief on April 9-10, potentially lowering temperatures by 2-3 degrees.

On Saturday, the minimum temperature dropped slightly to 16.9°C from 17.5°C the previous day, staying near normal.

The daytime temperature also decreased marginally to 34.6°C from Friday's 36.3°C, remaining slightly above average.

The IMD attributed the dip to westerly winds blowing at 22 kmph but predicted a rise in temperatures in the coming days. There will be a gradual increase in maximum temperatures by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius across many parts of the state in the next three days. Isolated pockets of South Haryana, including Gurgaon, may experience heatwave conditions.

A heatwave is declared when temperatures reach 40°C or higher, at least 4.5°C above normal. IMD warns that while moderate heat is manageable for most, it poses a "moderate health risk" for infants, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses.

They advise avoiding direct sun exposure, wearing light cotton clothes, and covering the head. Meanwhile, the city's air quality worsened but stayed in the 'moderate' range, with an AQI of 184, up from 118 the previous day. According to the system of air quality and weather forecasting and research (Safar), the air quality will remain moderate on Sunday but may drop to 'poor' by Monday.
