The MCG has mandated autorickshaw unions to remove political posters within two days due to the model code of conduct for the Haryana assembly election. GURGAON: With autorickshaws being used increasingly for political campaigning ahead of Haryana assembly , MCG on Friday took cognizance and directed unions to ensure that such posters are taken down as model code of conduct (MCC) was in effect. The corporation told autorickshaw owners that they have two days to remove any political posters, and if they don't, stern action will be taken by the regional transport authority (RTA).
Autorickshaws are fast becoming a new method of campaigning, with posters being displayed on the three-wheelers while they traverse the city. Officials said that it is a convenient alternative to putting up posters or hoardings , which are often taken down by authorities. MCG additional commissioner Balpreet Singh, who is also the MCC nodal officer in the city, said that a drive was initiated to remove hoardings, banners, stickers and wall paintings of political parties or functionaries from public places.
"If any vehicle is found with promotional materials of campaigning for the election, the vehicle will be seized, and an FIR will be registered," Singh told RTA officials on Friday. Tek Chand, a member of the Gurgaon Auto Association , said representatives of the group attended Friday's meeting too. "We understand that model code of conduct is in place.
So, we have decided to take down these posters and advertisements," Chand said. Haryana goes to the polls on Oct 1, and results will be declared on Oct 4.On Friday.
The additional commissioner said anyone can flag MCC violations through the C-Vigil app , social media and other channels. "If any MCC violations are found during any inspection by EC and administration officials, action will be taken against responsible officials of that area. All concerned officials must ensure strict compliance with MCC within their jurisdictions," Singh said.
