Pakistani media has reported that three security personnel and two civilians have lost their lives in an attack by unknown gunmen. The Express Tribune Pakistan, in a report published today, Monday, February 3, stated that armed assailants attacked a vehicle carrying Pakistani soldiers in the Dera Ismail Khan area. According to security sources, the gunmen targeted the vehicle carrying security forces as it was traveling from Balochistan to Dera Ismail Khan in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
At least three soldiers, the driver, and one civilian were killed in the attack. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, although the Pakistani Taliban (TTP) has previously taken responsibility for many such attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Just three days ago, at least 18 Pakistani soldiers were killed in clashes with armed militants in the Balochistan province.
On Saturday, February 2, Anadolu Agency reported that Pakistani soldiers clashed with militants in the southwest of the country, resulting in 18 soldiers and 12 militants being killed. Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remain among the most insecure regions in Pakistan, with a significant portion of the country’s security incidents occurring in these areas. Independent security studies in Pakistan have shown a nearly 50% increase in security incidents over the past three years, marking one of the most unstable periods in the country in over a decade.
The rise in such incidents points to the growing security challenges Pakistan faces, particularly in its volatile border regions. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Δ.
