Former PNG national striker Meagen Gunemba has signed on with a Solomon Islands club for the 2025 season. Leaving behind her young family, Gunemba departed Port Moresby yesterday morning to join Frigate United FC, in the Honiara Women’s Premier Football League. This was confirmed by Lae City Dwellers FC coach and Meagen’s father Peter Gunemba yesterday.

He said her daughter arrived safely in Honiara yesterday and added she is looking forward with eagerness to do well. “She’s been recruited only for one season.” Maegen has a wealth of experience from playing with her local Poro FC in the Lae Football Association to leading the Dwellers in the Women’s Conference League.

She also went as far as representing PNG in the Nations Cup and the Pacific Games. Her father said she is a huge loss to the Dwellers, but in saying so said it is now an opportunity for the younger players to step up. “We have young emerging players to maintain the club’s standard.

“We are proud of Meagen’s achievement, as she is now opening a new chapter for herself and opening the pathway for others with this move.”.
