Surat: The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) of Surat city police nabbed notorious gangster, Gulam Hussain Bhojani , at Mumbai International Airport on Thursday morning. Bhojani was on the run since 2022 after he was booked under the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime ( GujCTOC ). Over the past two years, he went to Dubai, Switzerland, Madagascar, Iran, and the USA.
Bhojani was carrying a reward of Rs 20,000 on his head. Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Bhavesh Rojiya said, "Bhojani was a member of the Sajju Kothari gang . The gang was involved in serious offences like murder, loot, extortion, theft, torture, illegal arms possession, and money laundering.
" He said gang members Sajju Kothari, Samir Shaikh, Allarakha Shaikh, and Bhojani were booked under GujCTOC two times. When they were booked for the second time in 2022, Bhojani left Surat. "We came to know that he would land at Mumbai International Airport on Thursday morning.
Our team caught him with the help of Mumbai airport officials," the DCP said. Bhojani had contacts in other countries and he travelled there on visitor visas. "From Surat, he went to Delhi and then left for Iran.
After reaching Iran, he stayed at the religious place of Qom for four months. He then left for Madagascar and stayed for two months before leaving for Dubai. After staying in Dubai for two months, he went to Switzerland and left for the USA from there.
In the USA, he worked as a receptionist in a New York motel and also worked as a salesman in a shop," Rojiya added. Surat police had booked Bhojani in a Rs 3.25 crore cheating case related to a residential scheme project in Sachin.
He allegedly showed a revolver to the cheating victims. He was wanted for three years in two cases of GujCTOC and extortion. He has four serious crimes registered against him at Athwalines and Umra police stations.
