Gujarat to harvest a record crop of groundnut due to increase in area and yield, says SEA

Groundnut production in Gujarat is projected to rise by 26% due to increased area and productivity, reaching 42.19 lakh tonnes. The average yield has improved to 2210 kg per hectare. However, scattered showers have affected early sown crops, causing market prices to fall below the MSP.

The production of groundnut in Gujarat, the top producer of the popular table but, is set to increase by 26% over previous year driven by increase in area and productivity, said industry body Solvent Extractors' Association (SEA). "The scattered showers in certain districts during the last few days have damaged the early sown crop, which is discounted while arriving the crop estimate," said SEA, which plans to revise the estimates post Diwali as the ongoing showed may further damage the crop.
