A well-known guesthouse with a beach on its doorstep will become a house of multiple occupation after facing stiff competition in the area from Airbnb. Beachcomber is one of a string of guest houses and bed and breakfasts in Swansea's Oystermouth Road that have been popular with contractors working locally. We previously reported how the owners of Beachcomber guesthouse said they faced an increase in competition from the likes of accommodation website Airbnb along with the effects of inflation.

And they said there was low expectation of finding a buyer who would be willing to work seven days a week for an income averaging less than the national average wage. The plans, which were originally lodged as a HMO for 10 people, were refused last July but four months later revised plans for just seven people were approved. Plans are now progressing as applicant Debbie Baber has submitted reports of cycling parking provisions and waste management plans to meet planning conditions, which Swansea Council's planning department will now consider.
