At their most recent board meeting on Jan. 29, the Woodland Park School Board of Education passed a resolution “Recognizing only two sexes and rejecting gender ideology.” Their resolution is the strongest repudiation of radical gender ideology yet seen in Colorado.

The resolution affirms its compliance with one of Donald Trump administration’s first executive orders preventing federal funding from contributing to the promotion of gender ideology. It ensures “the full instructional environment respects the two sexes and rejects gender ideology.” It directs the superintendent to update any administrative policies to reflect the understanding that there are two sexes, ensures restrooms and locker rooms separate males and females, and ensures that males aren’t competing in women’s sports.

At one time, the understanding that there are two genders would have been too obvious to be stated outside of a kindergarten classroom. But, as the oft-cited quote from George Orwell’s “1984” puts it, “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

” Something as banal as the existence of male and female has become not only controversial but heretical to the culture deconstructionists in charge of our institutions in recent decades. Now, when the President of the United States makes a pronouncement of such a fundamental truth in his inaugural speech and in an executive order – he does so to the cheers of a country that has spent years being bludgeoned into complying. Nowhere have the cultural deconstructionists spent more of their time and energy than in the education system.

Last year, state Representative Stephanie Vigil passed a bill addressing “non-legal name changes” and compelled school districts to adopt policies on how to approach students struggling with gender dysphoria in the classroom. Woodland Park has been a particular subject of left-wing ire across the state. People ranging from the Vice Chairman of the El Paso County Democratic party (who recently went viral for encouraging his supporters to “choose violence”) to anonymous social media trolls running gossip columns in Loveland, spend a great deal of time attacking our school board.

For years – they’ve run a well-coordinated campaign of manufactured outrage to try and gain a foothold in our community. But they’ve failed. And today, the deconstructionists are on their heels.

Representative Vigil joined two others in becoming the first legislative Democrats to lose their seats to a Republican in nearly a decade. Colorado Springs School District 11, representing the same area as Vigil’s former district, just crafted a policy that would require parental consent before a student changes their gender identity. President Trump campaigned heavily on restoring sanity to this issue in his return to the White House.

At home, Woodland Park’s school board has shown themselves unwilling to surrender to Denver’s social engineers. These institutions’ willingness to stand up for fundamental truth should embolden boards across the country that are looking around to see if it’s once again safe to observe such obvious statements as “there are two genders.” Richard Caviness is the father of a Woodland Park School District student.
