Guernsey pull off sensational comeback to win Men's Inter-Insular

Jersey had whitewashed their hosts in the opening foursomes session on Saturday morning, leaving the Greens with a mountain to climb in the fourballs and singles. But they scaled those heights, narrowing the deficit to 6.5-3.

5 overnight before picking up seven-and-a-half points in the singles to seal a sensational 11-9 victory. ‘It was a pretty thrilling finish in the end there,’ said Guernsey men’s captain Dave Jeffery. ‘Obviously yesterday morning didn’t go to plan – 5-0 down – but we fought back hard with three-and-a-half points [in the fourballs].



But it felt like we gave them a little bit of momentum yesterday. We should have really won 5-0 in the fourballs. ‘But we had a talk last night and we knew what we had to do.

We said, “look, we can give away two and a half, three points, but every man’s got to go and fight for their point, one on one, for the trophy”, and that’s what they did. ‘I mean, you get these freak results. It probably is a freak result, ultimately winning 11-9.

‘It’s an amazing feeling.’ Jersey did come out on top of the women’s inter-insular, 13-7. The visitors had led 8-2 after the first day.
