Nearly three decades after the tragic passing of Bollywood star Divya Bharti, her close friend and actress Guddi Maruti has shared haunting details about the night of her death. Divya, who was just 19, fell from the fifth-floor balcony of her Mumbai apartment on April 5, 1993, in what remains one of Bollywood’s most mysterious and tragic cases. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Guddi Maruti recounted her memories of that night and provided insights that have reignited public interest in the events surrounding Divya’s demise.
Neeta Lulla’s Presence on the Fateful Night Guddi Maruti revealed that fashion designer Neeta Lulla was with Divya in her apartment on the night of her fall. According to Guddi, Neeta was sitting on the sofa, chatting with Divya, who had gone to the window to see if her husband, producer Sajid Nadiadwala, had arrived. Describing the tragic moment, Guddi shared, “Kitne stories, that isne dhakka de diya, usne dhakka de diya, but good that Neeta Lulla was there to see.
.. woh baat kar rahi hai or usne aise palti.
.. suppose khidki peeche hai, or ye (Neeta) sofa pe baithi hai.
And usne (Divya) peeche se bola, ‘Main dekh rahi hoon shayad Sajid ki gadi aayi hai’, ye aise palti hai, and she’s actually seeing her go down...
wo neeche jhuki and she’s gone down.” Reflections on Divya Bharti’s Personal Struggles Guddi Maruti also reflected on Divya’s personality, describing her as a “nice but messed up” girl who was immensely overworked and appeared troubled at times. Guddi recalled her last meeting with Divya during a party they attended with friends, including actor Govinda and Sajid Nadiadwala.
Speaking about Divya’s state of mind, Guddi noted, “She was okay at the party, but I felt she was a little sad. She had to go for an outdoor shoot, but she didn’t want to.” Guddi also opened up about the toll Divya’s passing took on her mother and her husband, Sajid Nadiadwala, who was reportedly devastated.
Addressing rumours surrounding Sajid’s involvement in Divya’s death, Guddi clarified that Sajid was not at home during the incident and that he was deeply affected by her loss.
